Any one of the big three can give you your credit score.

Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax will all give you a free copy of your credit report.

The best way to get your credit score up is pay all of your bills on time, all the time, and consistently. There is no instantaneous fix, and it will take time.

You can get a copy of your FICO score by purchasing it at . You will have to purchase it from them. However, I have a Washington Mutual credit card that shows me my FICO score online for free and gives me recommendations. This is just a free service they provide for their cardholders it seems. Also, Suze Orman sells a FICO kit that I hear is pretty good and can help you with all kinds of suggestions, depending on your specific situation.

    HTH!

also, those tips ARE specific directions on how to improve your credit score.

It doesn’t work that way. You will only get general tips, not specifics.

Basically, pay off your credit cards. Carrying balances of morethan 30% hurts your score. Pay them off and get a quick score boost.

Paying off derogatory items won’t improve your score unless you get the item removed. But paid old debt looks better than unpaid. Creditors look at more than just your score.

You will probably get the best info on how to improve (still just general info) at MyFico.com. You have to pay for the scores but you will get real FICO and not Fako that a couple of the credit bureaus sell you.

Basically, time and consistent good payment history builds up your score.

    Read this for your score:

The govt gives us one free report a year (without going through one of those companies that makes you sign up for something).

    Try this one -
I use it to monitor my credit score during last 3 years. And also cleaned off some bad items from my credit report.

videogamer1979, I recommend you call a local credit rebuilding company. They should have some programs for you.

Don’t hire a credit repair company, they only steal your money. You yourself can do everything that they charge you to do. The best way to get your credit back on track is to truly learn about credit at places like.

Credit repair takes time, it will not come over night….no matter what any credit repair company tells you. And for the love of anything you hold holy…don’t go with one of those companies that make your payments for you….they can totally wreck your credit.

    the three biggest credit-killers are:
    1. late pays
    2. utilization (the amount you owe compared to the amount of credit you have)…this is both per card, and cumulatively over all your revolving accounts.
    3. and lastly…credit counseling or credit repair services (yup, you hire them to help you straighten out your credit and it lowers your FICO.

Seriously, check out creditboards (or other legit credit self help forums…it is a lot of work, and a long road….but you come out in the end knowing just about everything there is to know about credit.
